Our story began in early 1980, as a humble family business in Sydney’s northern suburbs, when our Founder, Jurgen Fengels, had a vision. He wanted to bring the joy of the world’s most iconic novelty confectionery brands to everyday Australians. Brands like Trolli (Gummi Bears), Zappo (Fruit chews), Sunmark (Fun Dip, Nerds) and Robert Friedel (exclusive seasonal hollow chocolate figurines), were our original “startup” products, with Trolli and Zappo still being the “backbone” of our business today.

In the decades since then, Jurgen’s idea has flourished. Generations of Australians have grown up with our brands. Our business has grown exponentially, and Universal AU has become a true novelty confectionery powerhouse. As both importer and manufacturer, we control over 80% of the Australian novelty market, with a steadily growing footprint in Asia and the US.

Today, fueled by our unrivalled distribution networks, with an industry reputation for integrity and service, and a company-wide passion for innovation, our gaze has widened. Beyond novelty confectionery, our portfolio now features exciting product categories including a Licensing, Gourmet & Beverage division, partnering with some of the world’s most visionary licensors, premium chocolates & novelty beverage brands.
